I saw a messege this morning on a newsgroup that I had been on quite a while ago while looking for a Chessapeake Bay Retriever that said there were two Chessie's at the Queen Annes Animal Control that needed a foster home or adoption. I was home early to watch the kids so I decided why not go over and visit them. We all fell in love instantly with the girl. She was smaller than the male and very timid. She obviously was on her own for quite a while from the condition she was in. Skinny, her coat was sparse and she just seemed very shy for a retriever. The rescue people said she was found wondering with her brother and seemed to have been on their own for a while. The boy was in better shape than her and certainly would make a great hunter due to his size and roudy tempermant. Apparently our Chessie had a litter of pups pretty recently also. We can only hope they ended up OK. I think that is partly why she is so frail. She had been nursing several pups and just wore herself down to nothing.
The kids and I went to get Suzy from work and bring her to see the sweet girl and she fell in love with her just like I did. She's home with us now just stretched out right by me on a pad that we made for her.
She sure took an instant liking to Mary and Vinni. I told Suzy guess who's going to be fishing with me Saturday morning when everybody is busy sleeping. I got a new fishing buddy! A little side fact that I read and just took a look at to see for myself. How many people know that Chessies have webbed feet. Yes it's true. I just looked for myself and darned if her big paws don't look like duck feet. They are supposed to be more at home swimming and chasing down ducks so I'll have to get her in her element this weekend. I'll post some pics if I get some good ones.
She seems like she has always been here with us.

She is such a beautiful dog, and she sounds like such a sweetie pie.
I bet she feels so lucky to finally have a family who loves her, and a place to call home!
I can't believe someone would treat her the way she's been treated.
Poor thing.
I know she will be mary and vinni's best friend for life!
